See and Hear: Soft Bullets - Posterity

When a band's time of existence eventually comes to an end, side-projects are often an inevitability. Something that most listeners avoid like the plague it seems. So it is necessary that the musicians come back from a demise with interesting new music in order to break their way back into the industry and make a splash with listeners.

So when Bournemouth band 'Air Traffic' came to an end (or hiatus) in 2010, after losing a drummer, lead vocalist and pianist Chris Wall found a partner in American drummer Dan Capaldi. The two now exist as 'Soft Bullets' and after teasing the world with tracks and a short run of gigs they are starting to reveal some releases.

New single 'Posterity' is a great introduction to this newly formed band. A great electronic-pop track that rests in simplicity (as the band is only a two-piece) but still manages to keep the listener guessing, mainly as a result of Capaldi's creative percussion. The accompanying video, a surreal use of projected animation and clever illusions to make a multi-armed being playing all the parts is a wonderful way of visualising the music, allowing the listener to truly see the song.

The use of light and shade in arrangement resting above a beautiful vocal melody resonates from the previous entity as 'Air Traffic'. It still sounds like a big band sound despite being so reserved in instrumentation.

As mainly only acoustic tracks exist online it is hard to see what vein future tracks may come from. But I for one am rather interested to find out. The single 'Posterity' is released March 11th and you can see the video below.
