Hear: Sohn - Bloodflows

It's always a rewarding experience when you find yourself clicking away, going from link to link, hearing some fantastic music in the hidden corners of the internet. It is what led me to find Sohn and his beautiful new track 'Bloodflows'. Typically he is a rather secretive entity and trying to find out more about this wonderful artist is proving difficult.

As far as I can gather, Sohn used to live in London but has since moved to Vienna. He creates delicate, electronica-led, ambient pieces of music. The perfect accompaniment to his soulful voice. It is not unlike the music of James Blake but has also been compared to a "chilled out" Gotye. It's almost "post-dubstep".While listening you get that feeling of being simultaneously as relaxed as possible but also not sent into a dreary sleep, kept intrigued by some interesting glitchy drum beats.

'Bloodflows' carries a slightly sombre undertone which for me makes Sohn's music stand out amongst other similar artists. He does not go out of his way to bring a crowd to a dancefloor but creates unique sounds that rest above an emotional, sensitive lyricism. Something that you find in other genres but not necessarily in the ambient subconscious of electronica.

It's great to have a completely different feeling cast over you by a genre that doesn't usually appeal to you. But it goes to show how music as an art is evolving and changing whenever new hands take to it. We'll wait and see where Sohn will take us next. But it definitely seems somewhere new and exciting.

Sohn plays SXSW this year and will play a festival circuit across Europe shortly after. For more information, if you're lucky, try Sohn's webpage. Listen to 'Bloodflows' below.
