See and Hear: Oliver Wilde - Pinch

The beautiful DIY ethic that exists in the music of Oliver Wilde is one that really is to be admired. Coming out from under the security blanket of simply an acoustic guitar and branching out into the true definition of a one-man band creating beautiful loops, effects and an overall ambient soundscape all from the comfort of home.

Yet with this, the music has not been rushed or put together in a wayward manner just to get something out. It is clear that time has been taken over Wilde's tracks. All scratches of fretboards and microphone hiss seems to have been added with careful intent to give character.

And now it seems that this philosophy has been reflected in a visual form of early track 'Pinch'. A video consisting of a mixture of animation, projections and shadow puppetry culminating in a wonderfully surreal creation and perfect accompaniment.

I say this because this video took talented animator Lauren Orme two years to complete. All in secrecy even to the songwriter himself.

The entire product is really one that shows what hard work and persistence can bring you. Upsettingly, this video and track may never garner the world wide audience it deserves. Though if there is any justice in the world I will be proven wrong.

Oliver Wilde's debut album 'A Brief Introduction to Unnatural Lightyears' is due to be released later this year through fantastic Bristol-based indie label 'Howling Owl Records'. It's one that has been a long time in the making and keeping listeners (including myself) in a great deal of suspense. But if this stunning visual is anything to go on, good things certainly comes to those who wait.
