See and Hear: Bridges - Hunt In Packs

Before running the risk of becoming lazy in a post-christmas lull, something comes along to spur me back into action. That something is the video for 'Hunt In Packs' the new single from Bridgwater-based band Bridges (apologies for the unintentional alliteration). The new single, taken from the three track 'Paws' EP, is a delicious slice of energetic indie-pop pie that doesn't risk integrity by being catchy. Dotted with intricate guitar-work, a mastery on the kit and an overall refined sound.

If you have had the privilege of seeing these three gents live, which I have on multiple occassions, you would know that their knack for a hook is only overshadowed by their energy on stage. A characteristic that is becoming gradually lacking in "young" bands. I am hesitant in labelling under an age group as this is not something to dwell on; as Bridges prove.

The video itself is simplistic but effective. Much like the fantastic predecessor 'Bearpit', it's got that DIY feel but still feels professional. Your visual side is kept stimulated while not distracting from the great track at its core. Yet another piece of evidence that you don't need big budgets to get yourselves taken seriously.

The debut EP, which I picked up in their hometown at my second time seeing them, is consistently great in itself but is definitely the seeds of something even bigger to grow. They appear to have so much more great material that is not squeezed into the mere 10 minutes they have chosen to release, which I'm sure is a strategic move, as I am itching to hear more. But I guess you know what they say "treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen".

Watch the video for 'Hunt In Packs' below. Buy the 'Paws' EP physically from 'Fear of Fiction', or the band themselves, or download it from iTunes. Now sit back and watch a new favourite band rise in the year that wasn't going to happen.
